The Mayor's Charitable Trust

Mayor's Charitable Trust

As is customary, the Mayor has chosen to support two charities for the duration of his mayoral term, focusing on the theme of ‘resilience’. The first is Learn English at Home (LEAH). The second is the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps) - FANY (PRVC).

Learn English at Home (LEAH)

Learn English at Home (LEAH) is a charity headquartered in Kingston supporting ethnically diverse sanctuary seekers.

LEAH's vision is to achieve ‘inclusion through language’ and personalised language support by empowering people, whose first language is not English, to communicate independently in areas of health, wellbeing, education and work.

For over 40 years, LEAH have been doing this work and have great expertise in understanding the needs of some very vulnerable people affected by trauma and displacement. Their greatest strength is the fact that their support is led by dedicated volunteers who have been fully trained to deliver lessons and they, along with our very experienced staff team, provide essential support to help people become included in our communities.

LEAH are also very proud to be part of Kingston's Borough of Sanctuary work.

The First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps) - FANY (PRVC)

The First Aid Nursing Yeomanry is an all-female voluntary organisation, which deploys multi-faceted rapid response teams to support civil and military authorities in times of crisis, can be a great motivator and change maker: able to encourage, raise awareness and build confidence in all to have the very mindset and capabilities to deal effectively with today's great challenges.

The FANY (PRVC) is an organisation, with a diverse membership, and are on call 24/7, 365 days a year. FANYs train every week to ensure that they can provide surge relief to civil and military authorities in times of crisis. They also deploy in support of non-emergency operations, and routinely assist organisations with their training to help keep their members sharp and to forge working relationships.

Today's FANYs, with their ethos of “Service not Self” can play a vital role in engaging with youth, business, education and civic sectors across this south west corner of London.
